Ancestor Veneration Prayer

Below is a simple prayer I have used for many years in my ancestor venerations. It is important to me in my devotional and magical work to ground myself at the centre of the compass. This simple and beautiful prayer just does that, with a nod to the energies and protectors of each of each quarter.

“I open to the East, land of the Seer, of clarity and perception. I ask this dark night to be filled with clarity and perception.

I open to the South, land of the Healer, of energy and transformation. I ask this dark night to be filled with energy and transformation.

I open to the West, land of the Priestess, of wisdom and understanding. I ask this dark night to be filled with wisdom and understanding.

I open to the North, land of the Warrior, of courage and perseverance. I ask this dark night to be filled with courage and perseverance.

As above, so below.
May the gates of the crossroads stand open
For those ancestors of heart and blood and place
Who are well in spirit and intention.
Enter and partake of this light and these libations.”

Perform your ritual actions here. Commune with your ancestors in whatever way is your custom: conversation, singing, dancing, meditation, divination etc. Leave offerings of food, water & candlelight and close with the following.

Closing

“As the gates close…
May all my ancestors of heart and blood and place be happy and at peace
May all my living relatives be happy and at peace.
May I be happy and at peace.
May all future generations be happy and at peace.
May all my ancestors and all my relations be happy and at peace.”
